Job Description


FAMILY DAY CARE Nominated Supervisor/ Educational Leader (NOT CHILDCARE)


Duties


In relation to Educators:



  • Work in partnership with Educators to ensure the delivery of high quality care and education.

  • Provide regular home visits and telephone contact.

  • Monitor Educator's equipment and resources to facilitate high quality care.

  • Monitor and assess the Educator's knowledge and skills and organise training as required.

  • Support Educators in their ongoing professional development and/or Educators working towards a higher qualification.

  • Monitor standards of care and ensure hygiene; nutrition, health and safety guidelines and regulations are being met.

  • Monitor care to ensure compliance against regulations and the National Quality Framework.

  • Assist Educators in making improvements and modifications to ensure compliance and best practice.

  • Organise playgroups for attendance by groups of Educators.

  • Provide information pertaining to children and families that will support in EducatorS in providing the highest quality, and most appropriate care.

  • Provide information and support to assist the Educator in providing improved services.

  • Guide and support the Educator in the purchase of appropriate toys and resources.

  • Provide information to Educators on where and how toys and resources can be borrowed.

  • Guide and support the Educator to provide an inclusive, culturally and developmentally appropriate environment for children.

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and modeling to Educators in regard to best practices.

  • Provide ongoing support and assistance as required to Educators in areas of administration, program development, parent and community networking, staff professional development and training, and other areas as requested.

  • Support the facilitation of Educator's successful implementation of the Quality Improvement Plan.


In relation to children and families:



  • Assess and monitor children's care to ensure quality and safety.

  • Assess and monitor children's care to ensure inclusion.

  • Ensure that placement of children is appropriate to their cultural and developmental needs.

  • Assess and monitor children's care to ensure the suitability of particular children with particular educators.

  • Ensure that each child is being provided with appropriate opportunities and experiences relevant to their development.

  • Ensure that each child has access to age and developmentally appropriate toys and resources.

  • Provide information and support to families using the Service.


In relation to colleagues:



  • Attend all staff meetings as required.

  • Assist and support colleagues to enable them to provide the best, most appropriate support for educators and families.


In relation to the Service:



  • Maintain a sound and current understanding of the National Quality Standard and National Framework.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of the Early Years Learning Framework.

  • Maintain awareness of current issues in children's services.

  • Demonstrate a professional level of written and verbal communication skills.

  • Maintain and demonstrate an extensive knowledge of Child Protection legislation and its implications for the care and protection of children.

  • Maintain and demonstrate an extensive knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety legislation and safety issues relating to children and staff.

  • Inform the Coordinator of any issue arising that may compromise the children's health, safety, or wellbeing, or the efficient operation of the Scheme.

  • Work in collaboration with Coordinator to address educator non-compliance issues.

  • Maintain current knowledge of stages of physical, emotional, cognitive, social and cultural development of children.

  • Maintain current knowledge of health, hygiene and nutrition needs of children

  • Assist in selection, recruitment, and training of Educators.

  • Make recommendations to the Coordinator in regard to approval and re-approval of Educators.

  • Assist in the placement of children.

  • Plan and implement information sessions for prospective and new Educators.

  • Establish and maintain a network of relevant community services and agencies.

  • Attend professional development opportunities as negotiated with the Coordinator.

  • Promote and represent Family Day Care as a viable and quality childcare choice.

  • Contribute to a safe and healthy workplace by taking action to remove and/or reduce workplace hazards and risks.

  • Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of all Educators and staff of the Family Day Care Service.

  • Assist in the review and amendment of Service policies and procedures.

  • Maintain current skills and knowledge of software required to complete administrative duties.

  • Any other duties, within the scope of the position, as specified by the Coordinator.


In relation to the administration:



  • Independently organise workload and ensure any/all deadlines are met.

  • Maintain accurate records of all home visits and telephone calls made to Educators.

  • Ensure all written records and reports applicable to the role are completed and submitted in a timely manner.

  • Participate in the production and distribution of newsletters and fact sheets for Educators and/or families.


Essential criteria:



  • a Diploma or Degree¬† in Early Childhood Education and Care or equivalent

  • a current Working with Children Check

  • a current first aid certificate (including asthma and anaphylactic training)

  • Certified Supervisor certificate (or willing to obtain)

  • National Police Clearance

  • A committed to delivering high quality care and NQF high quality indicators

  • To be Innovative, creative and motivated

  • Experience in leading a team and building strong team morale

  • Great personality with a professional manner and appearance

  • Goal orientated

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
